If you enjoy drinking wine, consider taking a short get away to experience some regional wines. Every wine making part of the world has its own particular method of producing wine and its own unique grapes. Grapes can differ even among the same variety when grown in different regions with varying soil and other environmental conditions. As with any adventure, one of the joys in an outing whether short or lengthy in duration, is experiencing the offerings of the area you're visiting and wine is definitely no exception. Imagine how you can impress your wine drinking friends back home when you share a bit of knowledge about an obscure part of the country and its particular take on wine.

Now, your getaway could be as close as a short drive from your own house. It is very common for wineries to be located practically anywhere that grapes can be grown and most all of them offer wine tasting opportunities, tours and a gift shop for purchasing your favorite wines and related products. You might be surprised to find that you have been living virtually next door to a winery and didn't even realize it. Just for fun, glance through your telephone book's yellow pages and see if any wineries are listed. Even better, do a quick search online for wineries in your specific area. Chances are you'll find something close fairly quickly.

After you've decided on a winery location to visit, the next step is to plan your route and activities. Wouldn't it be fun to pack some bread, fruit and cheese to enjoy on the drive back with some newly purchased wine? When plotting out your trip be sure to see if there are any roadside parks or resting areas that would make a nice setting for a wine and stuff picnic. Just be sure the driver waits until arriving home to drink any more than a glass or so of wine. Before you leave the winery, remember to stock up on several bottles of your favorite regional wines and bring the fun experience home with you to enjoy and share with others.
